Decorating with pieces you already have

I love to redeorate- I love DIY and shopping at discount places such as structube, IKEA, and wayfair. However, it is not particularly cost effective to redecorate multiple times per year. Normally after Christmas I was go boxing day shopping and snag some deals to spruce up a room. This year due to COVID this was not possible.  What I had wanted to buy was a new rug for my living room, a new vase for a vignetter and new side table for my bedroom.  I have been looking on sites such as facebook marketplace and kijiji for a new rug for months and found nothing that fit my midcentury-boho style.

We began cleaning our basement after Christmas in order to complete a laundry room reno (post to follow) as well as make room for a home gym. Where I wanted the home gym to be I realized there I had a jute rug that I had purchased last year before covid at Goodwill for $3. It was not as large as suggested by design magazines but none the less I had my husband bring it up.  The jute rug looked amzing with my newly covered couch and new chair.  I love this room now. It was a quick save of hundreds of dollars.

Next I found an old three drawer dresser that actually came from my nursery as a child. It was the pefect size for a side table and allowed me more storage. I painted it the colour of my other side table and it looks great.

I also repurposed my orange living room chair to sit in my sons room.  We will be painting it BM Whickha, Grey with Pottery Barn blue shark themed sheets that were gifted to me by my aunt.

The take home message here is look around your house before spending money. Move pieces to different rooms or different floors of the house and see how they look. You never know what you might find in your own clutter.
